Pleomorphic lobular carcinoma in situ: treatment options for a new pathologic entity.

چکیده
Introduction Not only is breast carcinoma the second leading cause of cancer mortality, it is also the most common form of cancer in women. Accumulation of genetic alterations within a single clone of cells eventually leads to uncontrolled growth. Models of progression of breast carcinoma suggest that the epithelial cell gives rise to carcinoma in situ after first going through phases of hyperplasia and atypical hyperplasia. In 1941, lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) was first described as a preinvasive lesion with inevitable progression to invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC). Total mastectomy was the standard recommendation. Haagensen, while working at Columbia University, was the first to describe LCIS progressing to ILC. In 1978, Rosen stated that total astectomy with low axillary dissection was the most logical operaive procedure for LCIS and that a contralateral biopsy should be erformed to rule out bilaterality. By the 1980s, LCIS was accepted as a marker for increased risk rather than a precancerous lesion, and

Pleomorphic lobular carcinoma: is it more similar to a classic lobular cancer or to a high-grade ductal cancer?
Background Pleomorphic invasive lobular carcinoma (P-ILC) is an uncommon variety of invasive lobular carcinoma with aggressive clinical features. Little is described in the literature regarding this topic. Materials and methods We reviewed our experiences from 2010 to 2015 and compared 40 patients with P-ILC, 126 patients with classic-ILC (C-ILC) and 574 cases of high-grade invasive ductal ca...
متن کاملPleomorphic lobular carcinoma in situ: Current evidence and a systemic review
Pleomorphic lobular carcinoma in situ (PLCIS) has only recently been identified as a distinct pathological entity within classic lobular carcinoma in situ (CLCIS). As such, there is currently no consensus among clinicians regarding the optimal treatment of this disease. The present study determined the risk of concomitant invasive disease and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) if PLCIS is observed...
متن کاملInvasive pleomorphic lobular carcinoma, negative for ER, PR and Her/2neu--a case report.
Pleomorphic variant of lobular carcinoma is a recently described variant of invasive lobular carcinoma. It is reported to be positive for estrogen receptors and progesterone receptors and over express Her2/neu in most cases. We present here a case of invasive variant of pleomorphic lobular carcinoma with coexisting classic and pleomorphic variants of lobular carcinoma in situ along with focal d...
متن کاملPleomorphic Lobular Carcinoma in a Male Breast: A Rare Occurrence
Carcinoma of male breast is uncommon as it accounts for 0.7% of total breast cancer. The pathology of male breast cancer is remarkably similar to that of cancers seen in women. The same histological subtypes of invasive cancer are present, although papillary carcinomas (both invasive and in situ) are more common and lobular carcinomas are less common. The predominant histological type, in males...
متن کاملPleomorphic lobular carcinoma in a male breast: a case report with review of the literature.
Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) is a distinct type of breast carcinoma and represents 5-15% of invasive breast carcinomas in female. However, the occurrence of ILC is exceptional in male breast, and the incidence is 1.5-1.9% of male breast carcinomas. Herein, we report a case of pleomorphic lobular carcinoma in a male breast. A 76-year-old Japanese male with a history of treatment with a proge...
